The Drakes Living Our Dream
The Drakes are Colorado Natives who share our journey in Learning, Leadership, Self-development as well as Marketing, Advertising and Travel.
We, Xiaoyi and Dominic, met in 2003, camping out in the woods near Colorado Springs, and began our lifetime of shared adventures shortly thereafter. In our seventh year together, we exchanged vows while on a trip to China and were wed. After our return to the states, we had a formal ring exchange and celebration for our friends and families.
We both have earned our BA’s from Metropolitan State University , literally working our way through our degrees as we both had to hold down jobs as well as school obligations. It took each of us over twice as long as a “4” year degree requires with Dominic earning his is just under 9 years and Xiaoyi in 13. Like many, we believed that if we got the degrees we would easily find jobs that would allow us to pay off our student loans and enable us to live our lives happy and full of the travel and joy we desired. And like many we were very disappointed. We graduated with over $50,000 in debt and could not find jobs in our fields. Xiaoyi currently cleans houses and teaches relationship classes while Dominic works at an insurance call center. We live in financially assisted apartment housing and have not traveled since our China trip.
We realized that we were not happy with where we were and we began making changes. This is part of our changes. We are sharing with you our trials and joys as we walk a path towards financial freedom and travel. We will be sharing our journey with you through our grand adventures of life as we return to making it an adventure and trying new things.
We found a great opportunity for travel that is also a business opportunity for us and we will share with you our joys as that continues to take off. We will also share videos and blog posts with you about how we are overcoming the hurdles we end up facing both with regards to our businesses, our lives and our travels.
